What should I do if Coke was spilled on a MacBook Pro keyboard?

Yesterday, my youngest daughter accidentally spilled some Coke on her sister's MacBook Pro. We quickly wiped it off with a damp cloth, but now some keys in that area feel sticky, often leading to multiple key presses. I'm guessing the sugar from the soda turned into a gooey mess. What are the best steps to clean this up? Can I do it myself, or should I take it to a repair shop for costly servicing or parts replacement? Just to clarify, I'm talking about the soda, not anything else!

It might be best to take it in for professional servicing. Even if it doesn't seem like a lot, sticky liquids can cause serious problems if not cleaned properly. Apple can disassemble it and clean every part to prevent corrosion, which can happen with Coke really quickly. Don't wait too long to get it done!

I had a friend who ignored a spill and ended up with a much bigger repair bill later. Better safe than sorry!

As a rule of thumb, try to keep drinks away from electronics. But yeah, sticky soda is no joke. If you can, avoid using those keys until it’s cleaned to prevent further issues!

And just a thought - what about the 'other' type of Coke? Asking for a friend, lol!

If you're feeling brave, you could try cleaning it yourself. Use a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Just don’t use too much liquid, and be careful with the keys! But keep in mind, if you’re not comfortable, getting a pro to handle it is usually safer.

I tried cleaning my keyboard once and ended up making it worse! Definitely consider the professionals.
