I've been struggling with programming because I often feel mentally slow when I'm coding. It's not that I can't eventually solve problems, but it just seems to take me longer than it should. I have difficulty forming clear mental models of how different parts of the code connect, and even when I grasp something, it doesn't always stick. I keep having to revisit basic concepts. I'm starting to suspect this might be linked to ADHD. Has anyone else dealt with similar slow processing or trouble connecting the dots while coding? How did you manage it? Did an ADHD diagnosis clarify anything for you?

I’d say it sounds more like a lack of experience and practice, rather than ADHD. Don’t be too hard on yourself!
It might be worth consulting with a medical professional about your concerns, rather than just asking on a forum. They can give you proper insights.
As a programmer with ADHD, I struggle to focus sometimes, but I've noticed that many others, even neurotypical folks, also take time to grasp programming concepts. It takes lots of practice. I learned a lot from GitHub projects and by repeating exercises until everything became second nature. Keep working on it; you'll get there!
With enough practice, your understanding will come faster! Programming is abstract, so it takes time to break things down into manageable chunks. Stick with it!
Honestly, struggling with understanding new concepts is a part of the learning process. Just keep at it – each attempt helps you internalize more.
