I'm building my first PC and I'd love some advice on my current parts list. I'm not sure if the ASUS ROG motherboard is overkill for my needs, so I also listed a cheaper TUF option. Here's my current build:
- HAF 420 Case: $300
- ASUS ROG X870E Motherboard: $654
- ASUS TUF X870 Motherboard: $266
- Ryzen 7 9800X3D Processor: $452
- ASUS TUF RTX 5080 OC Graphics Card: $1582
- ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro (420mm, no RGB): $100
- Lian Li Edge 1200W Power Supply: $180
- Samsung 9100 Pro SSD: $470 (already purchased)
- DDR5 64GB 6400MHz CL32 Ram: $195
Any suggestions or recommendations?

Honestly, your build seems a bit over the top for a first timer. You could save around $200 just by swapping the case and going with a cheaper motherboard and GPU. For instance, a decent X870 board could drop your costs significantly without sacrificing too much performance—about a 15% dip on GPU performance. Plus, the RAM you picked is a bit higher than necessary for your CPU; 6000 CL30 is actually a sweet spot unless you’re into manual tuning!
Cost isn’t really a major issue for me. What’s the main difference between the X870 and X870E?
