Frustrated with My ISP: Router Keeps Disconnecting, What Can I Do?

I've been having some serious issues with my internet service provider (ISP). Essentially, my router keeps disconnecting from the internet at random intervals. This can happen for anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours, sometimes multiple times a day. I've reopened the same support ticket seven times, but every time a technician comes (not to my house), the internet seems fine and they close the ticket. The problem usually pops back up the same day or the next. Today, when I contacted them while the internet was out, they made me reset the router and told me the issue was resolved, but it clearly isn't. I'm at a loss and considering alternative solutions since I can't get anyone to come and fix the issue directly at my place. I'm also waiting on a website that usually helps with these things but it's frustratingly slow. By the way, my connection is FTTC and it has been stable for years until now. Any suggestions would really help!

Check your router’s logs if you can access them. It might show why the disconnects are happening. If it’s losing connection to the ISP, that could point to the problem. Just document the disconnects if you can!

I looked for the logs; apparently, my ISP doesn't provide that feature on my router. It's frustrating!

If you're renting the router from your ISP, push to have them send a different one out. Sometimes their equipment is what’s causing all the problems.

From what you describe, it sounds like your ISP might be BrightSpeed. If you have other service options in your area, it might be time to switch.

It sounds like you might need to confirm what kind of service your ISP is using. Fiber, coax, or copper? It can impact stability, plus checking if there’s a weather correlation might help. When it drops, see if you can access any details from your modem or router.

Have you tried simply replacing your router? That worked wonders for me when I had similar issues.
