Getting My New Website Started: Where Do I Begin?

I've recently bought a new domain through Porkbun after losing my old sports website to a company in China. I want to set up my new site, possibly using WordPress, but I'm hitting a roadblock. I keep getting a message that I can't transfer the domain because it was registered less than 60 days ago. Can anyone guide me on how to get my site running and which platform to use? I used to have help with the old site, so I'm not too sure where to start on my own this time.

Just a heads-up, you can’t transfer a newly registered domain for 60 days due to ICANN rules. Instead, try keeping the domain with Porkbun and updating the Name Servers to your WordPress host. You'll have more flexibility and probably end up saving some cash.

Are you trying to connect to WordPress.com? If so, check out this guide for help: https://kb.porkbun.com/article/165-how-to-connect-your-domain-to-wordpress-com. It’s important to note that WordPress and WordPress.com are not the same, and I wouldn't recommend using WordPress.com for hosting.

Since you're building your site anew, consider using something like Vercel for deployment. It's worth exploring! If you're comfortable with coding, you could even host it for free on Firebase. Stick with techniques you used before; it’ll help you remember the process better.

You have the domain, but remember that's just an address pointing to a server. You'll need a web host to actually run your website. Once you've got a host, you can link your domain to it by setting the DNS records to point to the server's IP address.

You can’t transfer the domain yet, but that doesn't stop you from starting your website! Just set up your site on a host, and when you're ready, change the DNS settings for your domain to point to that host.
