Getting Ready to Switch from Windows to Linux: Backup Help Needed

Hey everyone! I'm really excited about making the leap to Linux after trying out Linux Mint Cinnamon. I absolutely love it and want to say goodbye to Windows for good, but I need to ensure I back everything up properly before I dive in. Usually, my tech-savvy friend helps me with this kind of stuff, but he's currently unwell, so I'm flying solo on this one.

I've already backed up a lot of my data on an external drive using WindowsImageBackup, but there's one drive that didn't fit so I put that on Dropbox. Before I install Linux, I want to make sure my backup is successful. However, I've hit a few bumps in the road and I'm feeling a bit lost:

1. I looked at the Event Viewer and noticed some *FAILURE* errors, but I think those are just leftovers from when I had to skip my J: drive due to space issues.

2. I tried using Command Prompt commands like 'wbadmin' but didn't get much help there. It just confirms ongoing backups rather than verifying completion, which was frustrating.

3. My Settings/Backup Options show that File History isn't active, which leaves me in the dark about some of my files.

It feels like the backup process is more complex than it needs to be. Why is there no simple message saying 'Backup Successful!' after the process? I'm at the point where I think I might just take a leap of faith and go for it but I'd rather not! Any advice on how to make sure I'm covered before fully switching to Linux? I'm not super techy, but I enjoy tinkering—just need a little guidance!

Check out the migration page in the Linux4Noobs wiki for some solid tips! They have a lot of useful resources about transitioning from Windows to Linux. Also, when you’re setting things up, remember to use root only when you absolutely need to and be cautious with third-party repositories!
