Has Anyone Been Scammed by an App Store Subscription?

I recently got scammed by an app I found in the App Store. It advertised itself as having a subscription feature, but once I signed up for the trial using Apple Pay, they continued to charge me even after I tried to cancel. What's troubling is that when I deleted my profile, I received no confirmation of cancellation, which makes me wonder if they can still charge me. I've reached out to their customer support, but I'm feeling lost. Is it enough to just change my bank card details, or do I need to take further action? How much information does a company get when I use Apple Pay? Should I consider opening a new bank account altogether? Also, my subscription doesn't even appear in the App Store subscriptions tab. Any advice would be appreciated!

Definitely contact Apple Support again, but also try reaching out to your bank. Changing your card details could help prevent further charges. With Apple Pay, the merchant generally gets access to the card number temporarily for the transaction, but they won’t get your full banking details. If you're concerned, setting up a new account might be a safe way to go!

Thanks for clarifying that! Feeling a bit better about contacting my bank.

You should definitely call Apple Support. They can access your purchase history and help you more than anyone else could. They have a record of your transactions that may help in resolving this issue. Just make sure to explain everything clearly, and they might have some solutions for you!

I reached out to Apple Support, and they told me I’m out of luck since this subscription is managed in-app, not through them. They just suggested disabling auto-renewal, but it seems like I'm still stuck. Ugh!
