Has Anyone Downgraded from Dropbox Enterprise to Personal Accounts?

I'm currently in the process of phasing out Dropbox from our setup because it was more of a shadow IT situation. We have three remaining users who are wrapping up a project, and they've requested that we keep their accounts active until they're done. Most of our data has already been migrated to Teams and SharePoint. I'm considering converting these last three accounts to personal plans. If I do this, will the sharing capabilities stay intact among them? Also, will I just lose visibility and control over these accounts?

Are you sure that downgrading is a good idea? Those last few users will be collaborating with team members, and it’s likely that they'll send Dropbox links among themselves. That might lead to another shadow IT situation you’ll have to manage.

The users are in the final stages of their project, so I don't expect any new collaborative work. Plus, the manager overseeing them is very committed to moving everything over to Microsoft. I trust they won’t revert back to using Dropbox more than necessary.

Why not have them move their files into Teams or SharePoint while working on their project? Is there something specific stopping them from doing that?

We’ve moved about 95% of our data already but they’ve been collaborating by sharing folders for years. It’s pretty chaotic. We felt it was better to let them finish the project before making the last few changes.

I’m following this one! We’ve been Dropbox users for over 22 years. Last year’s renewal was such a hassle that we decided to ditch Dropbox ASAP, even though we’re paid up until 2026. Our yearly fee is $15K, which isn’t huge but still significant. I wonder if our rep will even notice the loss of such a long-time customer after last year's mess.

I straight up told my rep we weren’t renewing last year, and I reminded him again in January. Haven't heard a peep since, LOL.

Consider switching to Dropbox for Teams or the Advanced version. That way, you can maintain some admin access, just with fewer enterprise features. The price difference shouldn’t be a big deal since you only have a few users.
