Has anyone tried KASM for remote desktops and apps? Looking for insights!

I'm exploring remote desktop solutions since VMWare is no longer an option for us, and Horizon seems too tied to VMWare. Citrix is off the list for various reasons. I've come across KASM, which looks like it could be a solid alternative for a simplified Horizon setup, particularly with its compatibility for Linux desktops and apps. I'm especially interested in how it handles Windows environments and auto-provisioning. In Horizon, the ability to use transient Windows desktops that refresh after each user session was key for us. On another note, I'm considering documenting my experience setting up KASM in my lab. I've had a positive response in the past with writing about Graylog, so I'm curious if others would find this helpful too.

If you're looking for a Citrix alternative, you might want to check out Parallels. It seems similar in some ways. Good luck with KASM, though!

We've worked with KASM and it's quite unique. Their model focuses on creating and destroying containers, which can be super efficient. The emphasis on Linux is pretty strong with tools like OnlyOffice aimed at specific sectors like DOD. If you're into EUC, Parallels is a solid backup option. It's user-friendly, straightforward to set up, and competitively priced, which could be worth considering.

I totally get the appeal of the build-and-destroy model! I was in a similar setup with Horizon, where everything reset after logout.

Keep in mind that both Citrix and Parallels face challenges due to rising costs of Microsoft RDS CALs, which can make deploying solutions pricey.

Right? Plus, I heard Office won’t run on Server 2025 for multiple users, which complicates things further!
