Having Issues With Hitches After Upgrading My GPU

I recently upgraded my GPU from an RX 6500 XT to an RX 9060 XT, and also added RAM to my setup. I'm running a Ryzen 5 5500 CPU with a Gigabyte B550 UD AC-Y1 motherboard. After the upgrade, I've been experiencing significant hitching and stuttering while gaming, especially in Battlefield 4 and Oldschool Runescape. Even though these games previously ran fine, now it takes a noticeable amount of time to track mouse movements in OSRS. Newer games are somewhat better, but still stutter. My CPU usage spikes to 95% or more in games like BO6, but interestingly, my FPS and 1% lows seem normal. I already updated my GPU drivers, BIOS, and did a fresh Windows install. I'm considering going back to my old GPU if I can't get this resolved. Any suggestions?

What kind of PSU are you using? Sometimes insufficient power can cause performance issues after a GPU upgrade.

From what I can see, your Ryzen 5 5500 might struggle with the RX 9060 XT, especially in CPU-heavy games. Check out this article about CPU bottlenecks in gaming. Upgrading the CPU could really help reduce those hitches if your budget allows. But it's odd that older games are having issues, I'd expect those to run fine even with a higher-end GPU.

I get that it's a CPU bottleneck, but how does that explain the issues with older games like BF4 and OSRS? They don't seem to push my CPU usage high.

It sounds like a CPU bottleneck to me. I had similar issues when I upgraded from a 3060ti to a 5070ti, and my old 10850k couldn't keep up well. Battlefield, especially the latest versions, is very CPU-intensive. You might want to look into upgrading your CPU for a smoother experience.

Did you use DDU to uninstall the old GPU drivers before you installed the new one? If you haven't, I recommend running it to wipe all the old drivers clean and then reinstall the new GPU drivers. It can make a big difference!

Do I need to do that even though I did a fresh windows install?
