Help! Ants Infesting My Mechanical Keyboard

I'm dealing with an odd problem—I've found ants inside my mechanical keyboard! I'm using an Aula F99 and haven't modified it aside from changing the keycaps to enhance the RGB lighting. I suspect they're attracted to the switch lubricant.

I've already taken apart the keyboard twice to remove the ants, but they keep returning within about a day. I bought it back in February 2025, and this issue just started yesterday, January 16, 2026. I'm really unsure about how to resolve this properly, so I'm reaching out for help! Has anyone faced a similar issue or have any solutions?

You should identify the type of ants infesting your place. Some, like the "Crazy Ants," love electronics and can make huge messes. They follow pheromone trails, so make sure to disrupt these paths by cleaning thoroughly. If you can pinpoint the source of the ant invasion, eradicating them there will save your keyboard and other electronics.

You might want to shift your focus from the keyboard to the actual ant issue. You can follow their trail to see where they're entering your home. Once you find the entrance, cover that spot with some ant bait. I've had good luck with Raid—it kills them on contact and disrupts their trails. Just make sure to use it safely.

Sounds like you've got yourself some "lubricAnts"! Seriously though, it might be worth checking into if these ants are a specific type that tends to like electronics. They can sometimes cause issues in tech gear. Make sure to find out where they're getting in from and try to seal that up.

First off, don't freak out! You should start by removing the keyboard from the area where the ants are coming from. That'll stop more from getting inside.

Then, clean up any crumbs or food particles around your setup. Ants usually invade when there's a food source nearby. It's key to deal with the root infestation—try to find their nest and eliminate it. Once you tackle that, they should leave your keyboard alone! You can always keep the keyboard in a plastic bag temporarily until you sort out the problem.

Have you thought about going for a drastic fix? Just a joke! But really, before any radical solutions, you need to get an exterminator involved if it gets worse—especially if they're crazy in behavior like running around erratically.
