I'm really stuck here—I just built my first PC with an ASUS TUF Gaming B650-PLUS WiFi motherboard and a Samsung 990 Pro 1TB SSD, but the board isn't detecting the SSD in BIOS at all. The Advanced -> NVMe Config shows "No NVMe Device Found". I've made sure the SSD is seated properly and tried quite a few troubleshooting steps:
- Updated the BIOS using BIOS Flashback, but it still won't recognize the SSD.
- Switched the M.2_1 Link Mode from Auto to Gen 4, since the 990 Pro is a PCIe 4.0 drive, but no luck there.
- Double-checked the M.2_1 slot specs; it should support Gen 4 and Gen 5 without any issues.
- Disabled NVMe RAID Mode to ensure it's set to AHCI/NVMe.
- Tried USB BIOS updates with both USB 3.2 and USB 2.0 drives, but the BIOS doesn't update, and the SSD is still not detected.
- I also confirmed its compatibility since others have successfully used this SSD with my motherboard.
I haven't yet tested the SSD in another system as I don't have another PC available, but it seems unlikely that it would be dead right out of the box given its positive reviews. I've searched online for BIOS settings, but some settings differ from what's shown in various guides. I'm on the 2024 BIOS version, which is just one version behind the latest.
So, do you think this is a BIOS or compatibility issue, or should I just return the motherboard? Has anyone else had this problem with M.2_1?

Hey! It sounds like you're in a tough spot. Just to clarify, if this is a new build without Windows installed, it might be worth making a Windows install USB to check if the SSD shows up when you try to install Windows. Sometimes drives can be detected during installation even if they're not showing in BIOS, which is a bit strange but not uncommon. Might be something to try before returning anything!
Thanks for the tip! Just to confirm—are you saying I should install Windows onto a USB and then attempt to transfer it to the SSD during the installation? I'm still learning my way around all this!
