Help! Can’t Restore Permissions in Registry Editor After Modifying Internet Settings

I need some help! I was trying to figure out why my proxy settings kept reverting, and in the process, I accidentally removed the "full control" permission in my Registry Editor's Internet Settings. Now, it's stuck on "read only," and my local user account is essentially bricked since I no longer have internet access. Thankfully, I have both a local and an admin account on my laptop, so I'm currently using the admin account to post this.

My main question is whether there's a way to salvage my bricked local account without having to reinstall all my applications on the new local user account I created. I attempted to give myself "full control" access again for the registry, but I keep getting the "unable to change permission, access denied" message. I also tried changing the ownership of the folder, but it didn't work either. Each time I run the registry editor as an administrator, it only shows the admin account settings, so any changes I make don't affect my local account.

Does anyone have suggestions for what I can do to fix this? Or should I just give up and stick with the new local user? Thanks a lot!

First off, check if your local administrator group still has access. You might want to try adding your local user to the local administrator group via Command Prompt. Once you have admin privileges, you can change the permissions back. After that, you can remove the local user from the admin group if you prefer.

The local admin group does have access. I was trying to change my local user to admin using `ncplwix(?)`, but I still got the same error. Do you have a step-by-step for how to do this via CMD?
