Help Choosing a GPU for 1440p Gaming and Linux Compatibility

Hey everyone! I'm building a new SFF PC in mid/late June after 14 years of using the same setup. One of the biggest decisions I'm facing is choosing the right graphics card. My main objectives are to create a quiet water-cooled PC that's compatible with Linux. I'll primarily use it for browsing and watching 2K YouTube videos, but I also want to play some newer games like Cyberpunk, The Last of Us, and Baldur's Gate 3 at 1440p on medium settings. The prices I'm seeing are around €295 for the Intel B580 (12GB), €370 for the AMD 7600XT (16GB), and €306 for the GeForce RTX 4060 (8GB). I've read that the AMD 7600XT is a safe choice for Linux compatibility. However, the Intel option is tempting due to its price and decent benchmark performance, while Nvidia's technologies like CUDA and DLSS catch my eye as well. Do you think the potential advantages of Nvidia outweigh its poor Linux support? Any advice is appreciated!

I'd steer clear of the RTX 4060 8GB; it's not really worth it for your needs. The 7600XT is a solid choice, especially if you want good Linux support. Just remember to check out tools like LACT for setting up fan curves and such.

Yep, go for the 7600XT! Unless you enjoy troubleshooting issues with your display not working on Linux, it's the safest bet. Intel's drivers are improving, but for your use case, AMD will save you a lot of hassle.

The 7600 XT is definitely leaning towards being your best option. The 4060 struggles with Linux support, and the B580, while fast, might not be ideal for gaming given your Linux focus. Plus, the 16GB VRAM on the 7600XT should help with future titles.

If you're looking at technologies like DLSS, that might be something to consider for future gaming, but honestly, I think the 7600XT will be the best fit for you right now. Make sure to do a bit of research on how it's performing on Linux—there are some great vids out there!

Honestly, at this price point, you might struggle to find a card that really handles 1440p AAA games well. Just keep that in mind as you decide.
