Hey everyone, I had a terrible experience yesterday that I need to share and seek advice on. While I was playing a match, my profile picture vanished and suddenly, all my friends got blocked. Then I received a message that seemed to be from Steam Support, but it turned out to be a scammer posing as them. The conversation felt incredibly robotic.
The scammer told me I needed to verify my account to avoid losing my items, which freaked me out. I became a total victim and chose a friend to hold my items during this 'verification' process. Shortly after, I received a trade offer that looked like it was from my friend's account, and in a state of panic, I accepted it on my phone.
After realizing I had been scammed, I reached out to Steam Support with all the details and screenshots, but they said they won't 'clone' the items due to their value. I even mentioned that I can see the profile where my items are now. Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there anything else I can try? I'd appreciate any help! Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your situation! Unfortunately, you're not the only one who has fallen for a scam like this. It's super common, and these scammers are getting really clever. Definitely report the scammer to Steam, but don’t get your hopes up for recovery. Steam Support has strict policies on item restoration.
This is a classic scam! Always be cautious with verification requests. Make sure to enable two-factor authentication if you haven’t already. It could’ve helped prevent this from happening. For now, documenting everything is key!
Yeah, Steam Support can be rigid, but providing thorough evidence might help. Some folks have had luck getting their items back even with strict policies, but it's rare. Just keep trying to connect with them and follow up regularly.
I get that, but I’ve heard of some people getting their stuff back with enough evidence. I really hope I can make a strong case.
