Help Me Build a Powerful Gaming PC for £1500

I'm located in the UK and I'm hoping to build a gaming PC with a budget of £1500 (excluding peripherals). I've been considering pre-built systems, but I've heard from a lot of people that building my own could be more cost-effective. My understanding of components is pretty basic, and I'm not really sure where to start for the best possible performance. I've seen some pre-builts with great GPUs but weak CPUs, and the other way around. I'd love to maximize performance on a gaming PC within my budget.

A couple of important points: 1) I really want a white case for aesthetic reasons, which is my only concession to looks over performance. 2) I've been advised to get a motherboard with built-in WiFi since I won't be using an Ethernet connection for the foreseeable future. I'm aware that it's a tough market right now with high prices, but I'm willing to give it a shot! Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think you’re right about building your own. Just keep in mind that while a white case looks great, it might add some extra cost which could impact performance. It’s okay to prioritize aesthetics to an extent, but components are more important, especially right now with prices being crazy! Just aim for a solid GPU, and you should be good to go.

You can definitely build a solid gaming PC within that budget! Check out this parts list I found: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/6hxtxg. It should give you a good starting point for performance and compatibility. It’s all about striking the right balance between components, especially focusing on the GPU for gaming.

That looks interesting! Do you think it can handle 1440p gaming, or even some 4K?

Thanks for this list! I'll definitely take a look at it.

£1500 is actually a pretty decent budget. I recommend going for an AM5 system, like a B650 or B850 motherboard, and consider a CPU like the 7500F or 9600X. If the price difference is minimal, the 9600X is generally a better option. From there, you should allocate about £500 for the best GPU you can find. And don't forget to choose a reliable PSU from a reputable tier list!

While pre-builts can sometimes offer cheap pricing on components, they often mark up individual parts more than you could get them for yourself. Definitely prioritize the GPU for your gaming needs; it’s key for performance. As for your case, it’s cool to want a white one, but just make sure it doesn’t compromise your build. As long as the case is white, you should be fine!
