What to Do When My iPad Touch Screen Stops Responding?

I have an iPad Air that I bought new about two years ago, and today the touch screen completely stopped working. I can't figure out what OS it is or anything since I can't access the device at all. I was playing a game earlier, and it was running fine until I needed to interact with it, but then the screen was totally unresponsive. My Apple stylus doesn't work either. Now, I can't even turn the device off! I've tried force restarting it, but it goes back to the same state. I've also let it die and plugged it back in, but nothing changes. When I tried to connect it to my computer to update it, I ran into issues—it said something about system extensions, and I got warnings about possibly losing data if the update failed. It started downloading what was labeled as recovery mode, but I panicked and unplugged it. With the iPad heating up, it feels like that game might still be running. I really want to recover my data. Is there anything I can do before I have to take it to an Apple store, which I can't do due to the weather?

It sounds like a tough situation! First off, don’t panic too much about the device being hot; it could just be working harder than usual. A force restart should close all apps, so the game shouldn’t still be running. If you’re having issues with recovery mode, just know that it doesn't inherently delete all data—it's more like a safe mode. But be extra careful when updating; disconnecting the cable during a system update isn't good, as it could really mess things up. I suggest trying to put it in recovery mode again correctly and connect it to your computer to see if you can restore it without losing data. Just keep in mind you might still have to back it up. If all else fails, you may eventually have to visit a store, but hopefully, these steps help you get back on track!

Yeah, definitely avoid pulling the cable while it's updating! It’s like shutting down your computer in the middle of something important. I’d try the recovery mode again carefully—just make sure you follow the right steps to keep your data intact. If you're really worried about losing your stuff, consider reaching out to Apple Support online; they might have more tips without needing to go in person.
