Help! My Accounts Keep Getting Hacked – What Should I Do?

I've had a rough week with my online accounts. Last week, my friend let me know that my Discord account was involved in promoting some crypto scams through DMs and in servers. When I tried to access the app on my phone, I was automatically logged out and couldn't sign back in because of two-factor authentication, which, to my surprise, had somehow been enabled even though I never turned it on myself. Fast forward to yesterday, and my friend told me I'm sending crypto promotion DMs and sharing them on my Instagram story. I managed to save one of my accounts but lost my Discord to the hacks. My Discord and Instagram accounts don't share the same email.

I checked the haveibeenpwned website and found out one of my emails was leaked in a data breach six years ago, but I received a notification that my account was deleted due to inactivity recently. I haven't clicked any suspicious links or downloaded anything new on my phone, so I can't figure out how this happened. I've enabled two-factor authentication on all my other accounts now. What is causing my accounts to get hacked repeatedly? I'm okay with losing social media but I'm really worried about my e-banking and sensitive information. How can I prevent this from happening again?

Have you logged into your accounts on any computer besides your phone recently? If so, there's a chance of session hijacking, especially if it was on public or shared machines. I'd recommend changing your passwords immediately and enabling 2FA wherever you can.

Sounds like your PC might be infected with malware. That could allow hackers to access your information without you even realizing it. Make sure you run a thorough antivirus scan on your computer.

It sounds like you might not be as secure as you think. If you didn't have 2FA enabled, that's a big red flag. You might want to look into whether you’re using weak passwords or even the same password across different accounts. A lot of people get hacked that way! Check out resources like the Australian Cyber Security Centre for some solid guidelines on how to protect yourself better.
