Help! My AMD RX 6950 XT Keeps Causing Power Offs

Hey everyone,

I'm facing a frustrating issue with my AMD RX 6950 XT where my PC randomly powers off while gaming. It started right after I bought the card, showing black screens during gameplay. I've swapped out my PSU multiple times, first from 750W to 850W, then to 1200W, but none of these changes fixed the problem. I've also tried the latest BIOS versions and tweaked various settings in the BIOS without any success.

As a temporary measure, I borrowed an RTX 5070 TI from a friend, and it ran flawlessly with no crashes. I even upgraded my CPU, motherboard, and RAM, switching from a 7800X3D with a B650 motherboard to a 9800X3D with a B850 motherboard, but I'm still experiencing power offs. I've sought help through two RMAs from XFX – one resulted in a new GPU, and the other in a used one, but the issue persists.

The problems appear to be most prominent in games like Company of Heroes 3 and Call of Duty: Warzone, crashing roughly every 30-40 minutes. Interestingly, limiting the FPS in Warzone seems to reduce the frequency of crashes, but it doesn't work for Company of Heroes 3.

For reference, I'm not using any risers, and I haven't overclocked my system. I noticed an error in the Event Viewer related to Kernel-Power that might be relevant.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Honestly, it sounds like you might want to try a different power supply again. Sometimes power supplies can be flaky even if they have the right wattage. If you can, borrow one from a friend or test with a known reliable model to see if that resolves the issue.

Are you using separate cables for each power connector to the GPU? Because that can make a difference, especially with high-performance cards like the RX 6950 XT. Also, what specific models of power supplies have you tried? I think 750 watts would typically handle it well, but it depends on how robust the PSU is.

Yes, I'm using dedicated cables.

I had a similar issue with a cheaper PSU, switching helped!
