I'm transitioning from a full tower setup to something smaller that will look good on my desk. My main usage includes playing MMOs, heavy programming, and engineering simulations, so I want to maintain decent performance. I'm wondering if a mini-ITX build is a viable option without taking too much of a hit on performance. I can compromise on storage since I only need around 2TB. Would a mini-ITX case be sufficient, or should I stick with a mid-tower to ensure good GPU space and thermal management?

You can check out this video that shows some great builds in similar cases. It might help you visualize your options!
With an Ncase M2, you can fit everything without worrying about space. It's a great compact option that handles heat pretty well as well!
Mini builds have come a long way! You'll maintain solid performance; just note that you might have fewer slots for RAM and expansions, but that’s manageable for most setups.
Going for a mini-ITX is totally doable, but be prepared for higher costs. You might want to check out a small mATX case instead, like the Cooler Master Q300L. It strikes a great balance between size and performance without cluttering your desk too much.

I was looking at the Fractal Design Terra case; it has a nice look too!
