I'm having trouble with my Aspire XC-780. When I try to power it on, it only stays on for about two seconds before shutting down again. It then attempts to turn back on and off repeatedly, and I had to unplug the power cord to stop it. While it's on for those brief moments, the power button light comes on, and the fans are spinning, but it seems there's a problem. Any advice on what I should check or do?

First off, try unplugging the power and then holding the power button for about 30 seconds. After that, plug it back in and see if it works. If it's still not turning on, you might want to check the RAM. Remove it, clean off any dust or dirt, and make sure it's seated correctly. If you have multiple sticks, try using just one in the main slot to see if one is faulty.
Another thing to consider is the CMOS battery. If it's dead, it can cause boot issues. You might want to unplug it, take it out, and replace it with a new one after you've tried the other steps. Finally, inspect your motherboard for any visible damage like burnt smells or bulging capacitors. Unplug everything except the CPU power, the main 24-pin power connector, and one RAM stick to troubleshoot further. If you don't find any issues and it's still looping, the power supply unit could be the culprit.
Just to add on, the CMOS battery is the small CR2032 silver battery located on the motherboard. It helps maintain your computer's settings, and if it's dead, that could lead to boot problems too. So definitely check or replace that if needed!
