Help! My Computer Won’t Display and Peripherals Aren’t Working

A friend just finished building his long-awaited computer, and everything seemed to be going well until it came time to boot it up. The computer powered on, but we never saw the BIOS screen on the monitor, which wasn't detecting any connection. Additionally, the keyboard didn't light up when connected. We're completely stumped on what might have gone wrong. We've connected the display to the GPU and also tried the motherboard outputs, but nothing has worked so far. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing these issues?

First things first, let’s check all the power cables. Make sure everything is connected securely. If it’s a modular power supply, confirm that both ends of each cable are plugged in correctly. You need all connectors for the motherboard power, and especially double-check the CPU power cable. If your GPU needs a special connection, use the correct cable from the PSU to the GPU instead of adapters whenever possible.

In case you haven't yet, try a different monitor or a different cable as a last resort. Sometimes it’s as simple as a faulty cable or port. Also, don’t forget to check if there’s a setting on the monitor itself that needs adjusting!

You might want to look at any LEDs on the motherboard. If there’s a CPU LED that lights up, that’s a good sign. If it lights up but you suspect the CPU isn’t seated properly, go ahead and reseat it just to make sure. Sometimes those connections can be tricky!
