Help! My First PC Build Is Struggling with Game Performance

Hey everyone! I just finished building my first PC and I'm running into some serious issues with gaming. I installed Windows 11 Pro but haven't bought the activation key yet. I've also installed the AMD Radeon drivers and kept them updated, but here's the deal: Battlefield 2042 won't even start – it crashes about 10 seconds in. Helldivers 2 shows an FPS of 60 in the menu, but in-game, it really stutters and feels super slow. I checked the Radeon software and it's not displaying my CPU or GPU stats like it should. I have my PC hooked up to a big TV right now. Honestly, it's running worse than my Steam Deck, which is kind of disheartening! I've set all the in-game graphics to low to see if it helps, but no luck. Could use some help figuring out what's going wrong!

Here's my build:
- Ryzen 5 5500
- B450m Machinest
- RX 6600
- 32GB DDR4 RAM (2 sticks)
- 650W PSU
- 1TB M.2 NVME SSD
- Stock cooler
- 9 fans
- Case Y60

Ensure your monitor or TV is properly connected to your RX 6600, not your motherboard. Also, make sure your GPU has all the necessary power cables attached. It sounds basic, but it's easy to overlook!

The HDMI is definitely connected to the GPU, and I see the power cable plugged in too. The fans are working.

If your TV is 4K, that could definitely be the culprit. Unfortunately, the RX 6600 isn't the best for handling 4K gaming, leading to stutters. What can you do? Try lowering the resolution on your TV or connecting to a standard monitor to see if that helps!

What should I do if that’s the issue?

You should try using HWInfo to monitor your CPU and GPU usage while gaming. Check for overheating or if your components are underperforming. Also, ensure that your BIOS is set correctly for your RAM speed; Ryzen chips can struggle with lower speeds.

First things first, did you remember to remove any stickers or protective covers under the CPU cooler? Also, reseating your RAM might help. It's a simple check that can solve a lot of weird issues!

I didn’t see a sticker, but I’ll look again. Reseating the RAM sounds like a good idea. I'll give that a shot.

Also, double-check that your SSD is in the correct slot to match the gen. That can impact performance too!

You might want to check the Windows Event Viewer to see if there are any critical errors that pop up when your games crash. Just search for 'Event' in the Start menu. It could give you more insight into what’s going on.
