I've run into a serious problem with my MacBook Air. I haven't updated it in a while because I was low on storage space, but today it wouldn't let me sign in unless I updated. Now I'm facing a support page with a warning icon. I don't have a Time Machine backup, and I still lack enough storage to download the latest macOS. I tried using First Aid, but it reported everything was fine. The internet recovery seems to go through the motions but then just prompts me for my password and takes me back to the same issue. I'm really concerned about losing all my files and need to keep my laptop running for work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to try cloning your data using target disk mode if you can connect it to another Mac. Alternatively, you could attempt to clone your data to an external drive while in recovery mode. That way, you can save your files before trying other fixes.
Just a heads up, if your MacBook was purchased in 2018, it's relatively new, so there's a good chance you can resolve this without losing your data. Remember, always check if you can access Target Disk Mode or consider getting an external hard drive for backups.
