Hey everyone! I was working on some CAD tasks using SolidWorks when suddenly my system started artifacting, powered off, and now it won't boot. The VGA light on the motherboard is lit up. Just before this happened, I had been gaming without issues for about an hour. I've tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps: resetting the CMOS, reseating the power connector, switching the BIOS on the card, removing the RAM, and even using DDU in safe mode to uninstall the drivers. It does boot fine without the 12V high power connected though. I reset the BIOS to defaults, but I haven't updated it since it was updated a month ago. I also jiggled the GPU in its socket and disabled resizeable bar. After unplugging everything except for the power and trying to boot, I'm left in the same situation.
Here's my build:
- Ryzen 9 9950X
- 96GB Ripjaws DDR5
- Lian Li 1300W PSU
- 3x Samsung 2TB M.2 SSDs
- Gigabyte AORUS Stealth Ice B650
- Lian Li LCD Infinity fans
- MSI Gaming X Trio 4090
My setup has hardline water cooling, so reseating the GPU isn't easy, and I can't switch PCIe slots because a radiator is in the way. Interestingly, when I try to boot with the 12V high power plugged in, two of the six Lian Li fans don't spin - it seems random which ones are affected. However, when using integrated graphics, all the fans work just fine. Also, the GPU backplate feels warm when I try to boot. I've been experiencing some crashes with Resident Evil: Requiem before this whole issue, but other games were running smoothly. I'm worried that my GPU might be completely toast. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, it sounds like your GPU might be dead. The symptoms you're describing definitely suggest some serious issues. If it's an option, check out MSI's warranty process. They might repair it, but since you bought it second-hand, it could be a challenge getting that warranty to work for you.

How's MSI with their warranty? I got this card used about a year ago, so I worry I might be out of luck.
