Help! My New PC Keeps Crashing with a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION Error

Hey everyone! I just completed building my dream gaming PC, but I'm hitting a major snag. Whenever I try to play *The Alters*, I get a BSOD with a **DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION** error. The game completely freezes, making it impossible for me to do anything—they're like mandatory reboots! Curiously, other less demanding games run without issues.

I checked the minidump file using **WinDbg** and, with a little help from **ChatGPT**, it seems like this crash points to a potential conflict with the **AMD GPU drivers**. It recommended doing a clean install of these drivers using DDU or possibly rolling back to an older version.

Just to fill you in, here's what I've already done:
- Updated all other drivers and BIOS
- Disabled EXPO in BIOS
- Monitored the hardware temperatures while gaming, all looks good.

I'm wondering if you guys think it's worth trying the **DDU** method? Also, should I run **MemTest86** or something similar to check for RAM issues? Any insights would be a big help!

What’s the full rundown of your hardware, especially your PSU? Also, running MemTest86 could help rule out RAM issues for sure. It might be worth trying just one stick of RAM at a time to see if that helps. If you can, boot up with just the essentials (keyboard, mouse, etc.) and try a fresh Windows install on another drive just to narrow down the problem—it might help identify if it’s software-related or not.

From what you mentioned about the DPC watchdog timeout in your GPU driver, it sounds like the driver is freezing up during intense tasks. Have you checked if you installed the latest AMD chipset and Ryzen Master drivers? Also, ensure your BIOS is the latest version available. An ACPI mismatch could also contribute to issues, especially if your GPU is running low on power, so ensure your power connections are solid.

Yes, I’ve got the latest drivers and BIOS updates. Here's a link to my build: [PC Build](https://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/QRNmcx). I'm using a PCIe 8-pin cable for power.

Make sure to gather those dump files as they’re key for identifying the cause of BSODs. If you can access Windows in Safe Mode, check the C:WindowsMinidump folder for any files. Zip them up and upload them to a file-sharing site like Mediafire so we can take a closer look; having multiple dump files can really help with analysis if the problem persists.

If the issue seems tied to the GPU driver, using DDU to reinstall or downgrade drivers is definitely a good call. It's one of the most recommended fixes for DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION errors. By the way, do make sure to have those dump files ready for further investigation; they'll really help in diagnosing the issue if needed.

Thanks for the advice! I'm planning to get on it and see what happens.

To avoid unnecessary issues, installing the latest drivers via AMD's Adrenalin Software is a great step. But if your problems continue, consider a deeper dive into your system setup—sometimes there are hidden issues, especially if you're using risers or other hardware components that could introduce instability.
