I just received my Samsung 990 Pro SSD yesterday and connected it to the m.2 port without any issues. However, I'm having a tough time getting it to work on Windows. When I try to add a volume and assign a drive letter, it takes forever and then tells me that the disk management console isn't up to date. Despite the SSD showing up in BIOS, disk management, and Samsung Magician, I can't see it in Windows Explorer. I was hoping to clone my old HDD boot drive to this SSD for better performance, but I'm stuck. Any advice?

You might want to force-setup the SSD using the Command Prompt. Open it as an admin and run these commands: diskpart, then list disk, select your disk number, clean, convert gpt, create partition primary, format quick fs=ntfs, and finally assign letter=Y. After that, try cloning your old HDD using Samsung Data Migration or iBoysoft Diskgeeker. Also, don't forget to check for firmware updates in Samsung Magician. If all else fails, you might need to consider getting an RMA for the SSD, though this method usually does the trick.
First off, have you tried formatting the SSD through the storage device management? That might help. Sometimes it gets stuck and doesn't show up until it's formatted correctly. Just a heads up, if it throws an error like 'Unexpected error, check system event log,' that’s a sign something’s off with the formatting process. But definitely still give it a shot if you haven't already!
