I accidentally ran a file called "Optimizer_2024.exe" that my cousin suggested for optimizing my PC. Before I started it, I got a warning saying the owner isn't responsible for any issues. I know, I know, bad decision! After running it, a command prompt opened and started an endless loop of code. When I rebooted, I got a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with "FATAL ERROR 2024". Then, my camera started popping up hundreds of times. I could only stop it by shutting down the PC. I've attempted to boot from a recovery USB, but the same issues keep occurring. I found a folder named "Encrypted_Files_4e7a" on my desktop that demands Bitcoin for unlocking the files. This has been going on for hours. What should I do? Is it time to just give up and pull the plug, or can someone help me fix this?

Just go straight to the BIOS and format everything. It’s the cleanest way to ensure no pesky files are left behind. Just make sure to back up anything important first, if you can!
If you want to try to recover your data, you might need a new hard drive or SSD. Install your OS on the new drive and then see if you can access your old drive as an external storage. That way, you can run antivirus scans before trying to recover any important files. But be careful, don’t transfer anything that might still be infected!
Paying the hacker could lead to more trouble. They usually just take the money and run. Instead, take this as a crucial lesson about backups and virus safety. Moving forward, a full system wipe is your best path to a functional system again, unfortunately.
You've definitely bumped into a pretty lazy virus. If you can’t get your PC back to normal, just bite the bullet and reinstall Windows from scratch. Go with a complete clean installation. It's the safest way to ensure you’re not carrying any malware. Also, maybe stop listening to your cousin's tech advice!
Honestly, at this point, a full wipe is probably your best bet. Delete all partitions on all drives and start fresh. For future reference, don’t run obscure files like that without checking them first. Your cousin should take that as a lesson too!
Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely take care of the formatting and back up what I can.
