Help! My PC is acting weird after upgrading the CPU

I've been using my PC for two years without any issues (specs: Ryzen 5 1600, 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4, 650W PSU, RX580 8GB, B450M Pro-M2 Max). Recently, I upgraded to a Ryzen 5 5600G, which was supposed to be tested and working. After updating the BIOS and booting into Windows, everything was great—running games at 1080p with high FPS. However, about an hour into gaming, my game crashed. When I tried to reopen Steam, it crashed too, and now it won't open at all. The system feels slow, but Task Manager shows that no resources are above 25%. I also know it's not a heating problem. I've updated all my drivers and even used DDU for a clean GPU install, but nothing has changed. What should I do now?

It sounds like it might be a hardware issue if you're experiencing crashes, but there's also a possibility it's software-related. I once had a similar issue after upgrading my CPU. It turned out that I didn't apply the pressure evenly while tightening the cooling system, which caused instability. First, I recommend trying to reinstall Steam to see if that solves the issue. Running some stress tests on your system, like Cinebench for about 10 minutes, could also help identify if the problem lies with your hardware.

I'll run the Cinebench test and share my results ASAP!

I ran Cinebench before my issues kicked in, and my single-core score was on point at 42389. But after redoing it, I got 4589557. What’s up with that?

Don't forget to run Memtest86+. It can help check your RAM stability and also generate some heat to see if there's a thermal issue. If your system was sitting overnight and still had the same problems when starting up, it might be worth checking anyway.
