I recently bought a refurbished RTX 3080 from a trusted seller, but I've encountered a lot of problems. Initially, I was getting errors like 'GPU crash dump triggered' while gaming. So, I got it replaced by the same seller, and just one night after putting the new one in, my PC wouldn't turn on after shutting it down. The guy I sent it to thinks that a voltage spike might have fried the GPU. I have a high-quality power supply (Gold standard), and no other parts seem to be affected. Can anyone provide professional insights on what might be causing this? Here's my current build:
- Ryzen 5 3600
- RTX 3080 (I know it's overkill, but I'm future-proofing)
- B450 motherboard
- 32 GB RAM 3200 MHz
- 1 TB HDD
- 128 GB SSD
- Deepcool PN750D 80+ GS

I'm curious, did you have a different GPU before the 3080? If that one was working, you could check if your PSU is fine by putting it back in. If the PC boots, then at least your PSU isn’t completely dead. But with two 3080s failing back-to-back, I'd lean toward the PSU or a power issue being the problem.
Your PSU should be fine on paper, but if you’ve had two GPUs fail so quickly, it's possible the PSU could still be the source of the issue, especially if it's older. If the first GPU was functional before the swap, it leans toward the second card being faulty due to the PSU.
Yeah, the first GPU had issues running some games, but the second one shorted out completely.
It sounds like there's something wrong with your PSU or the cables. The cables might not be rated for repetitive plugging. If you're getting voltage spikes, that could explain the GPU issues. It’s very rare for two GPUs to die just like that unless there's a power-related problem.
True, it wasn’t that both GPUs died; the first had game issues, and the second one worked fine initially but suddenly stopped functioning. I plan to have the PSU checked soon.

Before the 3080, I was using a 1650 Super with a Corsair 650W PSU. When I upgraded, I installed a new 750W PSU along with the 3080 and more RAM.
