I recently went on a trip with friends and took a ton of photos using my old camera and a 4GB SD card. I connected the camera to my laptop, and while the first 15 photos transferred without issue, the next ones were marked as invalid with errors (0x800703ED and 0x80070022 for one photo). My laptop is running Windows 11, and even though all the photos appear fine on the camera, I can't access them on the computer. After a while, I get a disk inaccessible message which suggests formatting – but I really want to recover those images first! I've tried using DISK DRILL but it gets stuck at 31% and says the disk is offline. The card uses FAT32. Would getting a special adapter help, or do you have any other suggestions for recovering my files? I'm worried I'll lose these memories since I was the only one taking pictures!

Have you tried accessing the SD card using a different computer? That can sometimes help. Also, double check the little lock switch on the side of the card; it might be in 'read-only' mode. If that's the case, the PC could be having trouble reading it properly. Let us know how it goes!
I flipped the switch, and it worked temporarily! But then I got the formatting message again after a bit.
Have you tried using a card reader to connect the SD card directly to the PC? Sometimes the camera's connection isn’t the best. Also, it might be that the SD card is overheating. Try transferring a few pictures at a time and let it cool down in between. It seems like this card might be on its last legs, so proceed carefully.
I don't have a card reader yet, but I’ll grab one soon! Do you think the old age of the SD card could be causing these issues?
It could definitely be a factor. Older cards can fail or get corrupted more easily.
That's frustrating! It sounds like there might be a deeper issue with the card.
