Hey everyone, I just got my WhatsApp hacked, and I'm freaking out. I got a message from someone I thought I could trust (hi mom, right?), and I ended up giving them the code that was sent to my phone. Now I'm locked out of my account on all devices. I suspect they might have changed my email because I haven't received any emails from WhatsApp at all.
When I tried to log back in, the verification isn't working. I've tried both SMS and phone calls to verify, but all I get are time limits and messages saying 'You recently connected.' I even changed my date and time settings, hoping that would help with the verification, but no luck.
I reached out to WhatsApp support this morning, and I'm waiting to hear back. I'm considering deactivating my SIM card, thinking that might deactivate WhatsApp and let me start fresh, but I really don't want to change my number since my whole college connects with me there. Does anyone have advice on what I should do? Any help would be super appreciated!

Honestly, it’s a tough situation, but it sounds like you might want to delete your account and create a new one if you can’t recover it. Just remember, WhatsApp clearly advises against sharing any verification codes with anyone, so it's a bummer things went that way. Good luck!
Do you have any backups for your chats? If you do, they might be saved on your Google Drive or iCloud. It could be easier to set up a new account if the old one is truly compromised. Make sure you're checking any services that might have backed up your data!
I do have a backup on iCloud, but I'm not super tech-savvy. I'm hoping I can figure out how to retrieve it if I change my number.
I get that, and I'm stressed enough without the extra comments! I just want to fix this.
