I was using my laptop with Windows 11 Home and troubleshooting some gaming issues when I encountered a Windows update notification. I assumed it was just a regular update, but after about 10 minutes, it looked like it was reinstalling Windows. Now my system is on Windows 11 Pro for Workstation, and I never agreed to this change! I'm really frustrated because I don't want to go through the hassle of reinstalling all my applications and games. Is there a way to revert back to Windows 11 Home without having to start from scratch? Any suggestions are welcome, even if it leads to a full Windows reinstallation.

Check if you logged in with a Microsoft account linked to your workplace, even just for Office or something else. If your account has a higher license, it could auto-upgrade Windows. After 180 days without logging back in, it should technically downgrade back to Home, but you might need to use a generic Windows Home key to force the switch if that doesn’t happen automatically. These keys are available online, just remember to make sure you're legally entitled to use them!
You might consider running a command in Powershell or CMD to switch the edition back. While I can't recall the exact command off the top of my head, you can find it with a quick search online.
It’s odd that Windows would switch versions spontaneously. That typically doesn’t happen with standard updates, which come out on set dates. Do you know where your original Windows license came from? Did you perhaps download something from a sketchy site during your game troubleshooting?

Yeah, that last update might not have been legitimate. I'd back up any important files and go for a full wipe and reinstall. After that, run virus and malware scans before reinstalling anything. Be cautious when restoring your files, too.
