Hey everyone! I'm in the process of building a new PC and I've already purchased a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32GB of Klevv RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a pre-owned case, totaling around £325. I still need to pay for some components, including thermal paste, a CPU cooler, a PSU, a motherboard, and a GPU.
I'm looking to spend under £100 on a motherboard, but I'm unsure which one to choose as they seem really important these days (especially with PCIe lanes and all that). For the GPU, I've got a budget of around £550 and I'm wondering if I should go for an RX 9070XT now or hold out for a sale. I'd love to hear your thoughts on both the motherboard and GPU choices!

For AI and gaming, a model like the RTX 5070 would suit you well. If you're dabbling in AI, consider older-gen cards with more VRAM. The 3090 is popular, but you'll need to balance gaming with your AI workload. Keep in mind that going AMD might limit your software support compared to NVIDIA, which is crucial in the AI scene.
I'd suggest prioritizing a good motherboard over the latest GPU if you can. The X670E would be a great choice for maximizing your system's potential. About the thermal paste, going with a reputable brand is key to keep your CPU cool. Don't skimp out on that!
What kind of benefits can I expect with the X670E compared to the B650? The thermal paste I found has fantastic reviews, so I’m not too worried there.
Honestly, if you're eyeing the RX 9070XT, I say go for it now. Those rumored GPUs aren't likely to drop anytime soon, and prices have been too high for too long. Just don't underestimate the importance of a good motherboard — I really recommend getting a B650 model at a minimum to avoid future headaches.
True that! I'm kind of hesitating on the 9070XT price right now, though. I'll probably hold off until I see a better deal. As for motherboards, I was thinking the B650 too, but what do you think makes it better than going for a higher-end X670E?
Seems like a solid plan. The B650 is great for now, but the X670E offers better features and future-proofing. Just make sure you're comfortable with the investment!
Great question! The X670E generally supports more PCIe lanes, which can improve performance with multiple GPUs or faster storage. If you're only focused on gaming right now, the B650 might suffice!
