Help Needed: Trouble Installing Linux Mint After Partitioning

I'm struggling with the installation of Linux Mint. I initially had it on a USB and ran it in live mode without any issues, but I had to halt the installation because I forgot to set up the partitions first. I went back to Windows, created the necessary partitions, and everything seemed fine. However, when I tried to boot from the USB again, I received an error: 'failed to open EFBOOTmmx64.efi - not found.' I've restarted Windows, but that hasn't resolved the issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This is a common issue! Try booting into Windows with your USB plugged in. Navigate to EFIBOOT on the USB and copy grubx64.efi to that same location, but rename it to mmx64.efi. Once you've done that, eject the USB safely and reboot your computer (it helps to unplug and plug it back in). You should be able to boot into the installer without any errors now!

I followed your instructions, but I'm not sure if I need to remove the USB after ejecting it before reconnecting. I copied the file as you suggested, so hopefully it'll trick the laptop into starting Linux.

I’m having the same problem. After using Rufus, my USB drive is showing only 4.8MB of usable space. It’s supposed to be 16GB, and I can’t figure out why I can’t copy the file over!

It sounds like a classic 'PICNIC' (Problem In Chair, Not In Computer) situation. Once you start the installation, your computer changes how it reads the USB. I recommend deleting the partitions you created earlier and trying the installation process again.
