Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a tricky situation involving an old SAN that was connected to two HyperV hosts, which are now completely dead. Thankfully, the virtual machines stored on the SAN are valuable and I want to recover them. I've managed to reconnect the SAN to my new servers using iSCSI initiator, and the drives show up in Disk Management. However, when I try to assign the drives to their previous location as Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) under C:ClusterVolume, I'm running into an error saying the resource is in use. Has anyone experienced something similar before? I'm really concerned about data loss and would appreciate any guidance on how to resolve this issue.

It sounds like you're facing a classic CSV issue related to clustering. Since you're trying to connect to a SAN that previously had clustering configured, the Disk Management will show those disks as in use because clustering services are trying to take control of them again. You might need to disable clustering on your new servers temporarily to reassign those volumes properly. Just make sure you have backups or copies of your data before making any major changes!
I had a similar situation before! You need to verify if clustering services are indeed disabled on your new hosts because if they are still trying to manage those volumes, it will cause that resource in use error. Also, consider using PowerShell to check the state of the disks and clear any old configurations that might be lingering from the previous setup.
