Help! Opera GX Downloaded Itself, What Should I Do?

Asked By TechNinja24 On

I was browsing the web, and somehow Opera GX started downloading on my laptop without me asking for it. I think I've deleted it, but I'm not very tech-savvy and I want to make sure it's completely gone. Any tips on what I should check or do to confirm it's uninstalled properly would be greatly appreciated!

Opera GX is just a gaming version of the Opera browser, so it's not a virus per se. However, the fact that it downloaded itself is bizarre. Just keep an eye on your system; running a malware scan wouldn't hurt.

What if I have something else that's sketchy on my computer?

If you're dealing with Opera GX, don't panic too much. It's a legitimate browser, though it's odd that it downloaded automatically. I recommend running a scan with Windows Defender or Malwarebytes just to be safe. They're good tools for checking if anything malicious got onto your system.

Sometimes, when you install other software, they sneak in Opera GX as a bundled option. If you clicked anything on that website that seemed suspicious, it could’ve activated the download. In the future, always watch for checkboxes during installations. But yes, try scanning your computer just in case.
