I'm not an Apple user and haven't had any Apple products since 2017, but today I received an email showing a purchase made on my account. I logged in and saw a new subscription in Nigerian dollars, which I definitely didn't buy. I want to change my password or even delete my account since I've had it for nearly a decade and forgot the answers to my security questions—my 13-year-old self didn't pick the best answers! However, every time I try the 'Change your security questions' link, I get a message saying I can't do that. After calling Apple support, they insisted it was just a matter of me remembering my security questions. I really need some help here since I've got fraudulent charges and zero access to my account.

First off, definitely dispute the charges with your bank. Apple should ban your Apple ID, so you won't be able to make purchases regardless. Also, it’s a good practice to remove payment methods from accounts you no longer use to prevent fraud like this.
It sounds like your account has been taken over somehow. Make sure to dispute the fraud with your bank as soon as possible. They can help you take the next steps.
Since you don't use this account, I suggest doing a chargeback with your bank and block your card. If it’s indeed your card that was used, initiating that chargeback is crucial. Even if your account gets locked, it’s probably lost to you anyway at this point.
I’m calling shenanigans on this. If you can't log in, how can you see the charges? It seems unlikely your credit card is still linked, especially after not using the account since 2017.
Exactly! There's no way to see subscriptions without accessing your Apple account, which raises some questions.

True, but we still need to confirm it was actually your card used for this purchase. If it was, then yes, calling the bank is the right move!
