Help with Linux Mint Installation Errors from USB on HP Laptop

I'm really new to the Linux scene and I'm stuck trying to install Linux Mint on my HP 15 series laptop. I've been trying to install it from a USB drive but I'm hitting errors when I click 'change' during the installation settings; specifically errors 1528, 1187, and a line 1209 error. I've tried using two different USB drives and two different ISO images; I used DD for one and Rufus for the other. I attempted to format the USB to ext4 using GParted, but it wouldn't let me unmount since it said the drive was in use. I'm also running UEFI BIOS. After four hours of troubleshooting, I'm at my wit's end!

Did you check the installation guide on the Linux Mint website? Make sure you're using Rufus or Balena Etcher to properly flash the ISO to your USB. After flashing, eject the drive completely before rebooting. It's important to disable fast boot in your BIOS and the fast startup option in Windows too, just to avoid potential conflicts. Before committing to the installation, do a hardware check in the live environment to ensure everything works! Good luck!

Are you running GParted from a live USB? If not, that's likely why you're getting the 'drive is in use' message. Also, check if fast startup is enabled in your BIOS; turning that off can help. It can sometimes cause issues with installation.

Yeah, I am using it from the USB. Thanks for the tip! I'll make sure to turn off fast startup.
