Help with Overheating ICH on MiniITX Build

Hi everyone! I'm working on a project to build a small gaming console based on the LGA775 platform. I've chosen the Intel DG45FC motherboard, which seemed perfect for my needs. However, I'm facing a serious issue: the ICH temperature is spiking to 90-100°C even when the system is idle, whether in BIOS or Windows. I've tried a few things to fix this; I've turned off all non-essential features, reinstalled the stock heatsink, and applied thermal paste for the first time, but the problem persists. I even added a tiny 40 mm fan on top of the heatsink. Does anyone have any other suggestions to help me bring down the temperature?

If you've already tried reseating the heatsink and adding a fan, check the airflow in your case. Poor airflow can cause overheating, even if the cooling components seem fine. Make sure there are enough intake and exhaust fans to keep the air moving.

Can you share a picture of your heatsink setup? It might help diagnose the problem better. Sometimes the way the heatsink is mounted can impact cooling efficiency.

Here's a photo of my heatsink setup. I have the same stock heatsink in a Silverstone Sugo13 case. What do you think?

It's crucial to ensure that the thermal paste is applied evenly and not too thick. If it's too thick, it can act as an insulator rather than a conductor. Also, consider a larger heatsink or an aftermarket cooler if space allows. Sometimes stock coolers just don't cut it when they're under more load than intended.
