Help with The Last of Us Part 2 Crashing and Restarting My PC

Hey folks, I've just installed The Last of Us Part 2 (using the SteamUnlocked version) on my PC that runs Windows 11. Unfortunately, I'm facing a frustrating problem. The game crashes to the desktop or my entire computer restarts after a few minutes, generally when I enter a new area in the game.

Here are my system specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 2600X
- GPU: RX 6700 XT
- Motherboard: B450 Aorus Elite
- RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz CL16
- PSU: Inter-Tech Argus APS 720W
- OS: Windows 11
- Monitor: 1080p

Additionally, I've noticed that my CPU usage spikes over 90%, sometimes even hitting 100%, and temperatures can reach between 80°C and 85°C, which seems concerning. Meanwhile, my GPU usage stays below 90% and is running cool. I haven't changed the thermal paste in a while, but I'm not consistently using the PC.

So, I have a few questions:
1. What could be causing these crashes or reboots?
2. Is it related to CPU overheating, PSU issues, or something entirely different?
3. What steps should I follow to resolve this?
4. Would upgrading to a Ryzen 5 5600 help with this issue?

Thanks in advance for any insight or recommendations!

Make sure your drivers are all up to date, especially for your GPU. Using DDU to uninstall and reinstall them is a great step if you haven’t done that already. Also, check your BIOS version; sometimes older BIOS can lead to compatibility issues with newer games and hardware. If your PSU is old, it might struggle when the CPU is under heavy load too. You might want to consider testing a different PSU if possible!

Thanks for the tips! I’ll check the BIOS and make sure everything's updated. I definitely want to rule out any driver issues first!

It sounds like your CPU is definitely struggling a bit, especially with those usage spikes around 90-100%. Overheating could very well be a culprit, leading to system instability. Replacing the thermal paste might help if it hasn't been done in years. Also, check if you need any BIOS updates; older versions can sometimes cause issues with newer hardware.

Overall, I’d suggest monitoring your CPU temps closely and considering that upgrade to the Ryzen 5 5600, which could provide better performance and efficiency!

Totally agree on the thermal paste! It’s such an easy fix that can unexpectedly solve a lot of problems. Definitely worth trying before making huge upgrades.
