High-End PC Struggling with Performance Despite Good Benchmarks?

I recently purchased a powerful new PC with a Ryzen 7 9700X, Radeon 9070XT, 32GB RAM, and a 2TB hard drive, believing it would provide a smooth gaming experience. My 3DMark score was impressive, and rendering was seamless without any issues. However, when I try to play games, I'm experiencing significant stuttering and frame rates that hardly exceed 30 FPS, regardless of the resolution or settings I choose. I've tested games like Elden Ring and Dishonored 2, but the performance is nearly unplayable.

I have attempted several troubleshooting steps: I've updated and reinstalled drivers, connected my monitor through the GPU's HDMI port, disabled the integrated graphics card, and adjusted the power settings to performance. My system isn't overheating, with temperatures staying under 50 Celsius. However, the menus in the Adrenalin software sometimes respond incredibly slowly, taking around 20 seconds for a click to register. I'm completely stumped as to what could be causing these issues, especially since benchmark tests indicate my PC should be performing excellently.

It seems like your CPU might be the culprit. Check Task Manager to see if anything is overloading it because older games usually don't push modern CPUs very hard. If your PC is prebuilt, you might also want to consider a fresh Windows install to clear out any unwanted software that came preloaded. Also, ensure you’ve enabled XMP for your RAM, and double-check that your chipset drivers are installed. You could run a test in Cinebench to see how your CPU's performance stacks up, too.

If you're using wireless peripherals, try connecting them to the USB ports on the front of your PC. That actually helped me reduce stuttering issues before!

First off, I'd recommend getting a dedicated monitor. Also, double-check that your HDMI is directly connected to the GPU and not the motherboard. After that, you’ll want to set the right refresh rate in Windows. Trust me, with a Radeon 9070XT, you will want to use a monitor with DisplayPort; HDMI might not give you the full performance you’re looking for.

Have you tried using a different output than HDMI? Sometimes a different connection can make a big difference in performance. Let me know if you need tips on how to connect your TV differently!

I haven't tried that since I'm not sure how else to connect my TV as a monitor.
