I'm trying to find a way to access software sources for Linux Mint 19.3 since it has reached its end of life this year. The laptop I'm working with can't run newer versions like Linux Mint 22.04 or 21.3 due to hardware constraints, specifically lacking SSE4 support. It's for an elderly user who really needs a functioning system, especially since they're currently using Windows 7. I want to be able to install basic applications like DOSBOX, Wine, and Gimp, but the missing software sources are causing problems. Can anyone provide a step-by-step guide, using simple language, that doesn't skip any important details? It's been over a decade since I studied computer science, and I'm not very comfortable with Linux command line anymore due to health issues. I'm starting to feel like the archived software sources are not accessible to regular users anymore. Any help would be appreciated!

If you really want something that might work better, have you considered trying LMDE? It’s based directly on Debian and doesn’t require SSE4, which might be a better fit for your laptop. Just a thought!
It’s a bit frustrating, but there are discussions about how outdated your version is. You could try checking if newer Mint versions might support your hardware better. Sometimes, the archives keep a bit of the older versions but be warned that they might not always work with EOL releases. If you haven't yet, look for the official Ubuntu documentation on upgrading EOL versions—it might guide you in the right direction!
I really want to help with that. If you do find some packages, back them up regularly as suggested. It could save you a lot of headache later!
The Linux Mint repos are a bit tricky for EOL versions. Since yours is Ubuntu-based, you might find some packages in the Ubuntu archives, but you could run into mirrors dropping support. Have a look at the link I found for EOL upgrades, it covers some of this info, though it can be a bit complex!
Thanks for the links! It’s been challenging trying to navigate. I hope it helps others in the same boat.

I'll have to look into that. If it reduces the issues I've faced with updates, it could be worth a shot!
