I'm using an iPhone 11 with iOS 16.2, and I just got a notification about needing to update to iOS 18.7.7 due to safety issues. However, my iCloud storage has been full since August 2023, and I haven't been able to back up my phone since then. I'm worried that I should back up my iPhone before proceeding with the update. Should I delete old backups to make space for a new one, or is there another way to back it up? Just to add, this iPhone is the only Apple device I own.

You can definitely delete old backups to free up space. If you're using a Mac, connect your iPhone via USB, open Finder, and you can back it up there. It's a pretty straightforward process!
If you're on a Windows computer, you can also back up your iPhone using iTunes. Just plug in your device, and follow the prompts. But keep in mind, iTunes is outdated on newer systems, so you might want to consider switching to Finder if you can. It generally works better with newer iOS versions!

Yeah, definitely! Lots of people have had issues with iTunes, so using Finder on Mac or even an option called Apple Devices on Windows may be a better route.
