How Can I Backup My Files Before Switching to Linux?

I'm currently using Windows 10 on a laptop with 4GB of RAM, and I'm considering making the switch to Linux. One of my main concerns is that Windows uses a lot of my RAM - around 50% even when I'm not running any games. Additionally, I seem to have a constant issue with storage space, as it keeps getting filled up even after I've deleted files. I want to back everything up before switching, but I have way too much stuff, and I'm not sure what I can use on Linux. Can anyone advise on the best way to back up my files and which Linux distribution I should try?

Baking things up is crucial! Just think, your hard drive could fail anytime, so definitely back everything up to an external device that you can unplug. I'd recommend doing a Clonezilla backup as well, just in case you need to restore everything later on.

First and foremost, make sure you’ve got your files backed up properly. If you're nervous about losing anything, take a USB drive and try some Linux distros through something like Ventoy. It helps a lot to test things out before fully committing. Also, about RAM usage... Windows usage can vary quite a bit, but Linux should be more efficient in your case!

Have you thought about just getting an external drive? That way, you can install Linux on a new drive while keeping your current setup untouched. It makes the transition a lot smoother!

If you're unsure about how to back everything up, it might be a sign that you shouldn’t dive into Linux just yet. Make sure you've got a solid backup plan in place before proceeding!

Getting a portable hard drive to backup your data before making the switch to Linux Mint is a great idea. It'll keep your files safe while you explore the new operating system!
