How can I block Facebook on my dad’s devices secretly?

Hey everyone, I'm worried about my elderly father who spends way too much time on Facebook, accepting friend requests from random profiles that are obviously fake. He's fallen victim to a romance scam in the past and hasn't really learned from it. I'm looking for ways to block Facebook on his Android devices without him knowing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

There's a way to prevent him from downloading the Facebook app by setting up a PIN for the app store. Just remember that he might still be able to use Facebook via the browser unless you block that too.

Have you thought about using the Digital Wellbeing settings on his phone? You can set app usage limits for Facebook. Just set it to really low, like 1 minute a day, and he might not catch on immediately.

One option is to set up a Raspberry Pi as a network-wide ad blocker using PiHole. It's a bit of a project, but once you get it running, you can block Facebook’s addresses at the router level. Just keep in mind that if he uses mobile data away from home, it won't stop him from accessing it that way.

You might consider removing the app and telling him it's only for people under 50 now. It might get him off it for a bit! Though that could backfire if he finds out.
