I have a budget HP Windows 11 laptop that I bought for around $200 a year ago, and I recently started using it as a home server for automation projects. I've already disabled the Windows updater in the task scheduler and changed all the power settings to prevent the laptop from sleeping or shutting down, whether it's plugged in or not or if the lid is closed.
Despite these efforts, the laptop seems to restart every few days, usually around midnight. I suspect this is due to updates. Is there a way to ensure that this laptop remains stable and uninterrupted for my server needs?

Totally agree with going Linux for a home lab setup. You'll learn a lot, and it's generally more reliable for server tasks. Plus, you'll have a much better experience overall without those pesky updates.
It sounds like you've done a lot already, but Windows updates don’t happen as frequently as every few days. You might want to check the Event Viewer logs to see what's triggering those restarts around midnight. There could be other processes at play here besides updates.
Honestly, if you're looking for a solid server experience, consider switching to Linux. It's way more stable for server tasks, and you won’t have to deal with annoying updates restarting your system. Plus, there are tons of resources for getting things set up, especially with Raspberry Pis and similar setups.
I think it's definitely worth it to consider Linux. It could suit your server needs much better, assuming you find the right drivers and software.
Just a heads up, if you stick with Windows, make sure to keep those backups in check before making big changes. You might accidentally shuffle things around and lose important data.

I appreciate the suggestion! I’ll need to look into which Linux distribution would work best for my needs.
