How can I connect my old TV to my laptop using HDMI?

I'm trying to hook up my HP 15-ef laptop to a really old Sharp LC-37D43U TV (it's from around 2007) with an HDMI cable. My laptop runs on Windows 11, but every time I try, I get an error saying "Incompatible video signal detected. Check output device settings." I'm not the best with tech stuff, but since the TV seems to recognize my laptop, I think the cable is fine. I found a manual online that lists compatible resolutions for the TV, and I've tried changing my laptop's resolution in the display settings, but nothing seems to work. The manual mentions different resolution types like VGA, SVGA, etc., but I'm lost on how to make this work. I realize the TV is quite old, but I wanted to give it a shot. Any tips would be awesome!

Make sure your TV is set to the correct HDMI input and that your laptop is outputting a resolution of exactly 1366 x 768. If you're unsure how to change your laptop's resolution, just go to your display settings and adjust it from there.

Try connecting the TV and laptop, then right-click on your desktop and navigate to display settings. Select the TV (which should show as screen 2) and attempt to change the resolution from that panel. I had a similar issue with my Samsung TV from the same era and fixing the resolution did the trick for me!

If you're only seeing limited options for resolution, you might need to update your graphics driver or check the laptop's graphic settings. Sometimes, the advanced settings let you customize it manually if presets are not available.
