How Can I Control My Smartboard with My iPad in Class?

I'm a kindergarten teacher facing a tech challenge in my classroom. I have a Smartboard connected to my laptop via HDMI and USB, but it's not internet-ready. I want to use my iPad Pro as a remote for controlling the Smartboard so I can move around while teaching, rather than running back to the board for each slide or annotation. The Smartboard is about 20 feet away from my desk where my laptop is set up, and I can't modify the wiring easily. My goal is to make lessons more interactive, possibly allowing my students to respond using their iPads too, maybe through an app like NearPod. The hitch is that our WiFi requires a username and password, which makes it tough to connect devices like Apple TV or similar options. I've already hit a wall with tech support, so I'm hoping to find some clever solutions. Any tips or tricks?

Have you thought about creating a mobile hotspot using your laptop? If that’s an option for you, it might allow you to connect your iPad without going through the main WiFi network directly. Just be cautious if your IT department has strict policies—they might consider that a violation.

I can use my phone's hotspot, but that isn't practical for daily use. It seems like the issue is more of the tech department's restrictions rather than my ability to connect.
