I'm looking to build a "dumb phone" that also serves as a gaming handheld. I'm aware smartphones are super popular, but I'm really curious about what exactly is needed to create this type of device. My vision for the gaming phone includes a proprietary operating system and its own app store ecosystem. I'm considering using AOSP (Android Open Source Project) for this project. Do you think that would work, or maybe something like a variant of RTOS, like Zephyr RTOS, would be better? If anyone has tips, tricks, or insights, I'd love to hear them!

Adding AOSP to create a "dumb phone" basically turns it into a smartphone, though! A "dumb phone" traditionally only makes calls and texts, and that's about it.
Just a heads up, but you might want to reconsider if you're aiming for a device that does more than just calling and texting. Most handheld gaming devices like the Switch or Steam Deck already fill that gap, so what's the appeal of combining the two?
Maybe by 'dumb phone' he just means something that’s less complicated than a smartphone.
